Maurice Utrillo
Maison à Montmartre

un certificat ne sera délivré qu’après présentation au comité Utrillo-Valadon à Paris

Provenance : Private property, Switzerland.

The painting on offer was created before 1914 in the Rue
Cortot in Montmartre. It is dated to Utrillo’s “période blanche”, which is characterized by the white impasto and represents the culmination of his oeuvre. The artist applied the paint with a knife and sometimes mixed it with plaster, lime or light-colored sand to enhance the sculptural effect. The dominant color tones oscillate between light pink and milky white. Influences of expressionist paintings are clearly recognizable in the works of this creative period.
